Whereas alcohol is a major contributing factor in safety, school dropout, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual assault, family violence, teen pregnancy, suicide, vehicular homicide, criminal mischief and other related criminal behavior,

Whereas

- 55% of Midland 9-12 graders had used alcohol in the past year

- 37% of Midland 9-12 graders had used alcohol in the past 30 days

- 40% of Midland 9-12 graders plan to use alcohol in the future

- 30% of Midland 9-12 graders have driven while or after drinking

- 37% believe it's ok to use drugs and alcohol to see what it's like

- 31% believe it's ok to use drugs and alcohol to relax or feel less tense

- 34% believe it's ok to use drugs and alcohol to have a good time

- 41% of adults surveyed believe it's ok to use alcohol to have a good time

- 78% of adults agree there is a drug or alcohol problem in Midland

- 58% of adults feel it is easy for youth to get alcohol, while

- 59% of students responded it is easy to get alcohol in Midland

- Less than 50% of the students indicated that they could talk to their parents about alcohol and

- less than 40% indicated that they would talk to their parents about alcohol

Whereas alcohol is the number one drug of choice among Midlands youth,

We hereby request your partnership to build a stronger community, where Midlander’s raise healthier families, through this plan of action to reduce underage drinking, through sustained efforts in prevention, awareness, education, and enforcement.
